Russound Multizone Controller Amplifier 6 Source 6 Zone MCA-66 is a powerhouse in the world of distributed audio, designed for those who want serious control over their home’s soundtrack without the clutter of individual stereos in every room.
Think of it as the “brain” of a wired home audio system—it takes your music sources and pushes them out to six different areas (zones) of your house simultaneously.
Key Specifications & Capabilities
Here is a breakdown of what makes the MCA-66 a staple for custom integrators:
Why People Choose the MCA-66
-
The “All-In-One” Factor: It isn’t just an amp; it’s a controller and a streamer. With the built-in XStream technology, you don’t necessarily need external players to start listening to internet radio or streaming services.
-
Physical Reliability: Unlike many modern “wireless” solutions that rely on a perfect Wi-Fi signal in every corner of the house, the MCA-66 uses hardwired speakers. This means zero lag and no “buffering” mid-song.
-
Integration: It plays very nicely with home automation systems (like Control4 or Savant) and Russound’s own sleek wall-mounted keypads (like the MDK-C6).
-
Digital Connectivity: It features a dedicated Bluetooth extension port (using the BTC-1X) so you can stream directly from your phone even if the rack is tucked away in a basement.
A Quick Reality Check
While 20 watts per channel sounds modest compared to a massive home theater receiver, it is more than enough for high-quality architectural (in-ceiling or in-wall) speakers used for background or focused listening. However, if you are looking to power a massive pair of outdoor “rock” speakers for a large pool area, you might want to use the Line Out to connect a more powerful external amplifier for that specific zone.
